Innovation is the driver of our business development. We want to spread thyssenkrupp's inventive genius. Because we are convinced: Education is a fundamental right that belongs to all people equally. For this reason we work closely in various global partnerships. Our goal: children and adolescents can freely develop their potential within an educational context. And students can explore their skills in practice. For a curious and courageous look towards the future.
Whether it’s biology, chemistry, math/computer science, engineering, or physics – at the annual “Jugend forscht” regional competition, students and apprentices present their innovative research projects and demonstrate how creatively they approach scientific questions.thyssenkrupp Steel Europe has supported the competition as a partner company and hosted it at its training centre in Duisburg for more than 40 years. Our colleagues also serve on the expert jury alongside teachers. We firmly believe: together we will inspire the scientists of tomorrow.
Immerse yourself in the world of STEM subjects in a playful way - kindergarten and school children can do this in the ‘pepperMINT’ experimental laboratory. Projects such as ‘Solar system with motor modules’ arouse interest in technical professions at an early age and help to counteract the shortage of skilled labor. The apprentices at thyssenkrupp Automotive in particular actively support the initiative and provide practical support. Together we promote the talents of tomorrow.
At thyssenkrupp, we promote culture and education in the communities near our sites. In Campo Limpo Paulista in Brazil thyssenkrupp Forged Tech is providing financial support for the "Oficinas Culturais" project. The aim? To offer free dance, ballet and capoeira lessons to students from public schools in the region. Adult and children's choirs are also part of the initiative, which is active for over 30 years. Everyone from Campo Limpo Paulista is welcome!
There are still many grievances and challenges in our society. For example, many people are still disadvantaged in their professional life. At the same time, natural disasters increase. Together we want to counteract this! That's why thyssenkrupp is involved in various collaborations and initiatives that promote equal opportunities. But we also support in acute disaster situations. For the community. For a better future.
Not everyone has the best possible start in life. Social background often determines whether someone will be able to enter the job market on their own or not. That’s why tk accelis has joined forces with JOBLINGE to support disadvantaged young people in a mentoring program lasting several months. The non-profit organization JOBLINGE works with partners from industry, government and society to help young people enter the workforce. Our mentors identify the teenagers’ individual strengths and interests. They support the young talents in finding internships and apprenticeships – at thyssenkrupp and beyond. The goal: real job opportunities and sustainable integration into the labor market as well as society.
The earthquake in Turkey and Syria, the flood disasters in the Ahr valley and Valencia and domestic violence shelters: all (acute) emergency situations with many victims who need short-term help. thyssenkrupp help for one world e.V. has been supporting such people in need since 2005. In the non-profit association founded by employees, current and former employees collect donations. The donations are then passed on to the beneficiaries via pre-screened charitable institutions.
For many, an apprenticeship is the start into the professional world. With the “opportunity program” thyssenkrupp Materials Services supports people who face social disadvantage. These include for example people with a migration or refugee background, people from the queer community as well as single parents, career changers or people with a disability. For these people we award additional apprenticeships - 2023, there were five more positions. The aim is to integrate the apprentices sustainably and reduce prejudices. Because: at thyssenkrupp, the focus is on the human being.
Discarded laptops do not end up in the rubbish bin at tk accelis. Instead, our colleagues give their discarded laptops to AfB. The non-profit IT service provider refurbishes them - either for reuse or for recycling. The refurbishment of the more than 3,300 IT devices handed over has already saved more than 375 tonnes of CO2. It has also secured five additional jobs for people with disabilities. We think: an enriching co-operation!
Social commitment? It’s a given for our apprentices.
Together, they dive into exciting fantasy worlds while reading aloud to preschoolers. Or they set sail on a playful expedition in a self-made wooden ship. With initiatives such as ‘Christmas in a Shoebox’ or organizing stem cell donations, the apprentices set a clear example of solidarity and helpfulness. And the environment is also important to them: on Social Days, they plant trees, collect trash or create raised garden beds and entire gardens.
What do all these projects have in common? The desire to bring about positive change together.
